Okay you won’t believe it but I’m actually writing about exercise (if you know me that’s a huge deal because the only exercise I get nowadays is trying to squeeze into my pants in the morning…ya feel me?! ) But don’t worry what I want to talk about today even the most out of shape people (aka me) can do!
If you happen to follow me on Insta you would know I posted the most outrageous dance video the other night in hopes that I could win tickets to “The Allison Show” dance party. If you haven’t had the luck of laying your eyes on this video watch below!
What you all saw was less than a minute of me dancing, letting loose, and what it seemed like not caring what people thought. What you didn’t see were the 3 hrs it took me to get up the courage to push the “share” button on Instagram, or the multiple clips I deleted because they were “too embarrassing”, and the ultimate regret the next morning when I woke up and remembered what I did the night before haha
Now don’t get me wrong I’ve always been outgoing. I knew from the second I saw her post the rules to the contest that I was going to make a dance and enter. I enjoy wearing bright colors and lots of patterns. But just because I’m more outgoing than most doesn’t mean I don’t still struggle with being my true self A LOT of the time. There are a lot more outfits I wish I would have bought (but I was too worried about what others thought) and activities I wish I had participated in (but I was too self conscious).
Unfortunately I can’t go back and change any of those things but from this point forward I can choose to be ME.
Allison, from the Allison Show, shared an Instagram post that really made me think. She said being your true self takes exercise! Think about it.
BEING YOU TAKES EXERCISE.
Too often we let what others think about us cloud who we really are! STOP IT!
It’s not as easy as it sounds though (cue me making a dance video for Instagram) just like physical exercise, it is uncomfortable, but the stronger we get the easier it is. You have to practice being you!
So what are you going to do today to strengthen the “True You”? I realize the true you of some people is NOT dancing and posting it on social media but maybe it’s just letting loose and dancing when no one is watching or buying those pants you saw at the mall but then put back because they were a little “too weird”. So today and tomorrow and every day after that, do something a little out of your comfort zone, practice being you.
At least that’s what I’m going to try to do!
